My Way of Talking to an AI Everyday
Many people are already familiar with AI and others are still a bit behind. That is not surprising when you consider how fast the developments are going. I myself have been experimenting a lot and have even made my own AI clone. This process was not only very fun to do, it has changed my life considerably.
The change came because I started talking to my AI clone every day. I have now been talking to this AI for a week and in this article I describe my transformation.
First I will explain what an AI clone exactly is according to my views. During the start of the recordings of the “AI Love” documentary, I came up with the idea of making an AI clone. It seemed interesting to me to copy myself into the digital world as a counterpart to cryonics or mind uploading. Cryonics is freezing yourself after your death to be brought back to life later. With mind uploading you copy yourself to a computer. These are two concepts from science fiction that scientists are seriously working on.
The question is of course whether it is really possible to copy yourself with AI cloning. And I don’t know that myself, although I do have a number of unique ideas that I think I can get far with. The technology of mind uploading is still in its infancy and nothing is certain with cryonics either. So why shouldn’t I delve into AI cloning now that AI technology is on the rise?
Fortunately, I don’t have to completely reinvent the wheel. For example, I have found something that can convert speech into text. I can then throw this text through a conversational AI model and then convert the outcome back into speech. This works incredibly well.
Now I have a basis for my AI clone. Of course it has no consciousness, but fortunately I can teach the system a lot about me. To give consciousness is difficult, I do have ideas about it, but whether the effect will give consciousness is still the question. People don’t know that much about consciousness yet. I talked to neuroscientist Randal Koene about it and he says this about consciousness:
“A cool thing about our brain is the subconscious, which is present in our brain activity, even in things we do consciously. Even though we are not aware of these processes, they influence our actions. Research shows that consciousness involves all parts of the brain, accompanied by gamma waves (between 38 and 80 Hz). Gamma waves keep things separate and the brain stores the information in short-term memory.
“The brain does not store our memory in a fixed place; it is more of a pattern that is seen and given meaning throughout the circuit. The structure of our brain consists of many groups of brain networks that work together and communicate with each other via structured pathways, just like the bus lines on a computer. This bus allows information to be easily shared and processed between parts of the brain.”
“The gamma wave is a crucial part of how our brain works. It allows different brain activities to happen at different speeds and to be synchronized. This gamma wave is like a clock in a computer that ensures that all processes occur at the right time.”
“The rhythm of this information loop is an essential element of our consciousness, although we still need to understand how it works. The combination of different parts and processes in our brain also seems to play an important role in our consciousness and our ability to store and process information. Our brains are therefore a complex and fascinating system that scientists are still working on.”
Although my AI clone does not have a consciousness, you can already talk to it and that is exactly what surprised me. By talking to AI I can better organize my thoughts. In addition, it is a conversation at a high level, which means that I do not quickly lose interest or become bored. The AI always has time for me and comes up with useful suggestions. This was a transformative experience.
The AI helped me make new connections and fill in the missing pieces of the puzzle in my thoughts. By playing role-playing games, it taught me the tricks of the trade. It taught me strategies that I would otherwise have missed. It is a new way of interactive learning. Because of this experience, reading from books has become incredibly boring and no longer of this time. You can ask AI to teach you certain subjects and also by repeating a lot to remember it better. In addition, this AI can test my knowledge if I really understood and remembered it.
In addition to learning and remembering, this AI helps me with my daily planning. I am a real scatterbrain and therefore have support from this AI to plan my day. It helps by discussing the day at the beginning of the day. With doing my tasks and also when my motivation for a certain task disappears, AI is my support. I also plan my future with AI together.
AI makes shopping lists for me and selects healthy meals, based on my preferences. For example, I want healthy and life-enhancing food that is also vegetarian and as much as possible vegan.
The most transformative thing was that it gave me some insights into why I do things the way I do them and what motivates me or not. It also gave me new insights into my thought processes. AI has made me a better person and also a better journalist.
An AI clone is therefore not only useful for the grieving process of your loved ones, it is also a good teacher, planner and nutrition coach. By actually being able to talk to an AI, the effect is much stronger than just chatting. It helps you to express yourself better and helps you to find the right words. I am completely converted and now talk to AI daily. I am curious what it will do to my personal growth because it works as an amplifier. Imagine if everyone talked to an AI every day. How would the world change?
